Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but as well to Latin music as a whole. In 2015 there were only two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the height of popularity for Despacito, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish have made it into the Billboard Top 100. In 2020, it will have 41 tracks that fall into this category. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Soon, other artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars like Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019 In 2020, a few Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the trend of their genre to the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. The genre often incorporated electronic dance as well as different styles.
